Here We Are

This version of America that we currently inhabit is utterly alien. For a young immigrant from South Asia nearly two decades ago, it furnished idealism. Granted the luxury to see the world framed through kindness. Perhaps even swayed the frame of morality- of the rights and wrongs. The universe was laden with possibilities. Pragmatism seemed like the dominant restraint. Only direction the human progress could march on was towards a better version, a kinder version, a more evolved version.

Past decade has declared a protest to that notion. A plethora of the populace is convinced that it is not the version of the world that they desire. And right now they hold the reins. With ferocious velocity, they have engaged in the task of demolishing the old order, with the nostalgia of even older entitlements.

In this new order, we are left questioning the basic assumptions. Does reality matter? Are certain verifiable events truly real? Can you celebrate cruelty? Is morality dispensable? Can you get away with anything when you hold power?

The demons we thought we had buried already in the past, have risen and are bustling with activities. Where this leads is anyone’s guess. At this moment, just the act of these thoughts and words may be a basis for retribution. But it has also made it even more urgent to enunciate these thoughts.
